Windows without curtains in a room look unpleasant. The look and feel of your home completely rely on the choice of your curtains. Be it a small or large apartment, curtain are the best way to make it feel like home. The elements of the colour, style and the texture contribute in major while selecting curtain for your apartment.
Regardless of how costly your decorations are if the pieces do not match each other, your space looks dull and gloomy. This, however, relates to curtain as well. If you want a skilful embellishment for your house, then coordinating the colour of your curtain with the wall colour is highly important. Here are some innovative ways to complement your walls with the curtains.
Have at least a bit of the colour as your wall
With a wide range of varieties of curtains on the market, opting for patterned curtains needs repetition of colours. If you feel overwhelmed with patterned curtains, then make it coordinates with the wall colour. Imagine you painted your wall with baby blue. Ensure there is some blue in the pattern of your curtain. Or purchase the curtain which has a baby blue background. In any case, it must coordinate the room colour a bit lighter or darker shade of the wall colour. Handle carefully in case you’d like to have patterned curtain to avoid iteration of colours.
Tints and shades of the same colour
The monochromatic theme with solid colours gives an amazing look with a class to the room. The colour of the curtains must be a different shade of the wall colour. If your wall colour is dark grey, then opting for dim grey or light grey curtains would be good. Remember; opt for the lighter or darker shades of the wall colour. Never choose the exact shade of your wall. To say it simple, tone-to-tone shades are referred as a monochromatic theme. In one of my apartments in OMR Chennai, I decorated my room with a tone-to-tone theme. I chose hot pale pink for the walls and hot pink curtain.
Harmonize with complementary colours
Choose complementary colours if you want a stylish look for your apartment. Two solid colours make a complementary theme. That is, if your wall colour is orange, then blue curtains would complement each other. This has a stylish look and a vibrant effect on the room. Sometimes, two solid colours might end up looking gaudier if you don’t know how to balance it. Instead, choose a neutral coloured curtain. This would go well with any solid coloured wall.
Neutral is always the finest
Like I said above, if you do not wish to have two solid colours in a room, going neutral is the best. Because a strong solid coloured wall can be easily balanced with a neutral coloured curtain. White curtains add warmth to the room if you paint the walls with subtle colours. But being plain looks starkly. So choosing neutral colours like ivory, cream or off-white would look subtler with solid coloured walls. Neutral and soft fabrics with contrasting borders would bring an alluring look to the room. This not only balances the colours, but harmonizes the room with style and charm.
The curtain is also not same in every season. Like in summer the curtain should be light in colour and the fabric should be cotton and in winter dark colour is more preferable.
